Question:
Good Day Code Question.
I enjoy the daily questions and responses that cover a variety of topics. Very interesting. The question today is about switches. Can a single pole toggle switch bein installed in the horizontal position rather than the traditional vertical position?

Answer:
Hi Ben,
Thanks for the question. The NEC does not restrict a snap switch (single pole toggle switch) from being installed in either a vertical or horizontal orientation. Unless it is a three-way or four-way switch, the on or off position is indicated on the switch. There are rules in 404.6 for connections and position of knife switches which are beyond the scope of your question.
Hope this is helpful.
