Question:
Greetings CQD.
Thank you for the excellent forum dealing with such various Code questions and information. My question is fairly easy, I think. If a brand new home is constructed and the grounding electrode is a concrete-encased (ufer ground) electrode, is a ground rod or two ground rods required as well?
Your opinion will help with some local discussions on this subject.

Answer:
Hi Andy, based on the information in the question, no the ground rod or rods are not required to be installed. If the only grounding electrode present for use in the grounding electrode system is the concrete-encased electrode, then that is all that is required to be used. See NEC Section 250.50. Section 250.53(A)(2) provides requirements for supplemental grounding electrodes that must be installed and the types that must be used.
Hope this is helpful.
