Question:

The Code Question of the Day is thankful for all of our wonderful Code Friends out there participating in the CQD and taking an active role in making the world a safer place. So HAPPY THANKSGIVING from the CQD, and we hope you continue to enjoy the daily Code Question. We know this isn't technically an Electrical Code question, but it deals with safety and Thanksgiving none-the-less:

How many home fires occur on Thanksgiving Day each year?

More house fires occur on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year. In 2019, fire departments across the U.S. responded to roughly 1400 house fires, according to the NFPA. The continued practice of deep frying a turkey is a key contribituer, as many people do not take the necessary precautions when cooking this way. Cooking is named as the cause for nearly half (49%) of all house fires, 42% of house fire injuries, and 20% of house fire related fatalities. Please keep this in mind as you celebrate the Holiday with your families. For more information on Thanksgiving Safety, you can visit NFPA's Thanksgiving Public Safety Page.
