Question:
In Colorado is it required that the electrical panel for a residence be installed on the exterior of the building or can it be installed inside the residence?
Jean Ouellette
A
Answer:
Hey Jean thanks for your question. It's not clear what you mean by "the electrical panel" or if it is the only "panel" for the residence. Panelboards are often used as service equipment, especially for dwelling units, and if so they can be located outside or inside the building or structure as stated in 230.70(A)(1) but if inside they must be nearest the point of entrance of the service conductors Colorado could have local requirements that are in addition to those in the NEC so check with the municipality building or permit department.
