Question:
Good Afternoon,
I've been reading the Code Question of the Day each morning and find the response enlightening. It must be challenging coming up with each response. My question relates to number of bends permitted in raceways between pull boxes. Do offsets count in the number of degrees in the total of all bends? The Code seems silent on this specific point.
Your opinion would be appreciated.

Answer:
Greetings Steve,
Thanks for the comments. Yes it is challenging. The best approach for us in the responses is to not assume what the submitter is asking and respond to the questions at face value. Otherwise it's speculation. For this question, although the NEC does not specifically address offsets as being bends, like a 90-degree bend or a 45-degree bend, the are still a bend creating the degrees of bends in the run. In the .24 section of the raceway articles, the maximum of 360 degrees of bends is provided, regardless of how large or small the bends are. It can seem very minimal to have to include box offsets in this count of bends, but they do all add up and contribute to resistance in the conductor pulling process. Hope this is helpful.
