Question:
Good morning, and thank you for your service to the industry. A NEMA3 main breaker panel, though rated for outdoors and exposed to the weather, is not protected by the small animals creeping through the cracks, generally raising havoc with their nesting components. Besides, they also get fried sometimes. Is there a method of reducing the desirability of these locations to such pests?

A
Answer:
Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the question. The openings in this type of equipment are often for drainage and ventilation but do not provide ingress protection from bugs and small rodents, etc. Some equipment has screens that help some. Other than location selection, it can become a problem such as when bees make a nest inside or a snake finds its way in. Give a whole new meaning to getting bit, and not by the electricity.
