Question:
Hi Code Friends,
I'm building a garage detached and was wondering if I need to use the GFCI receptacles in it or just standard ones that the NEC requires or perhaps just at the beginning of the receptacle circuit?
Thanks,
John Stepper

Answer:
Hi John,
Section 210.8(A)(2) addresses garages and requires GFCI protection for all 125-volt through 250-volt receptacles supplied by single-phase branch circuits rated at 150-volts or less to ground. The GFCI protect can be provided at the beginning of the branch circuit using a circuit breaker or can be by use of GFCI receptacles installed at the outlets.
