Question:
Hello CQD, in Section 110.26(E)(1) is the space the code is discussing, the space under the panel? Is this space in front of the panel to the floor on the outside of the finished wall or does it include the space below the panel which is in the stud bay?
Troy Van Beek
A
Answer:
Hi Troy, Section. 110.26(E)(1) provides requirements establishing "Dedicated Equipment Space". This dedicated space is the footprint dimension of the electrical equipment. If the equipment is 14.5" wide and 4" deep, then the space directly below the equipment in that same 14.5" x 4" dimension to the floor is the dedicated space. Additionally, the space directly above the equipment in the same dimensions, extending to the structural ceiling or 6ft whichever is lower, would also be Dedicated Equipment Space. The space in front of the equipment would be considered working space as required by 110.26(A)(1)&(2).
