Question:
Hello and Thanks for this daily NEC forum.
My question is about electrical metallic tubing (EMT), and if it can serve as the required equipment grounding conductor for branch circuits and feeders? I have an inspector saying that a wire-type equipment grounding conductor is required in the EMT. Hope you can clear up the confusion.

Answer:
Hello Paul,
Based on the information provided in the question, electrical metallic tubing (EMT) is suitable as the required equipment grounding conductor for both feeders and branch circuits. The EMT must be used with listed fittings in accordance with 358.6. See Sections 250.118(4) and 358.60. Also, you might want to verify the specifications on your specific project and if there are any local Electrical Code amendments to the minimum requirements of the NEC.
