Question:
Hi Friends,
Is a ground rod required at a light pole base to meet NEC requirements? I have an inspector requiring this.
Tom Alright
A
Answer:
Hi Tom,
Thanks for your question. The NEC does not require a ground rod (grounding electrode) at a light pole base. If a ground rod is installed is by specification and is considered and auxiliary grounding electrode which are addressed in Section 250.54. An equipment grounding conductor is required with the branch circuit supplying the light pole base. See Section 410.30(B).
