Question:
Good morning, Charlie, does the
NEC® permit the use of fiberglass conduit? It doesn't seem to match any of the wiring methods listed in Chapter 3. Regards, Cur Sijswer
A
Answer:
Hello Cur, great question! Fiberglass conduit is covered in the NEC®, the technical name for this wiring method is: Reinforced Thermosetting Resin Conduit (RTRC). Article 335 provides guidance on the installation of Type RTRC Conduit. On a side note, when a new, listed wiring method becomes available before it appears in the Code, the NEC® has a mechanism in place thru Section 90.4, providing latitude for an AHJ to provide special permission where equivalent levels of safety can be achieved.
