Question:
Hello CQD. If a room in a hospital is designated as a "wet procedure location" does that require lighting fixtures to be wet location rated? Thanks in advance, Sam Trapani
A
Answer:
Hi Sam, good question. A “Wet Procedure Location” and “Wet Location” are both NEC® defined terms and mean two different things. In fact, the definition/term “Wet Procedure Location” is taken directly from NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code, prior to the 2012 edition of NFPA 99, it was referred to as a wet location. In the 2012 edition of NFPA 99, the term was changed specifically to avoid confusion with the term “Wet Location” already in the NEC®. Section 410.10(A) requires luminaires installed in “Wet Locations” to be suitable for wet locations, this requirement would not extend to “Wet Procedure Locations”.
